I love quilting

No really, I love quilting.

I made this today:

Ain't it purty?!?! I'm so very excited with how it turned out!

Thanks to a long nap after lunch from my now one-year-old, (can you believe it?? he's one!!) I was able to knock out the piecing. It's made up of 36 (yes, 36) 2 inch squares.

This block is the center for the last block I am making for my 'log cabin' quilt that I have been working on for quite a while. (messy, messy. I know...)

It's gonna be quite different, and I'm very excited.

Aside from the very first quilt I started and this one, every other quilt I have started or even worked on was for someone else.

To quilt is to share!

But this one, it's mine. mine.

Oh that feels nice to say.

I think it is so amazing that bits and pieces of fabric can turn into something so beautiful and useful. I'm not sure about you, but wouldn't it be great if we could do that with everything!

One of the best things about quilting for me is watching how the seems line up just so. Oh, it just makes my day!

There may just be a postage stamp quilt in my near future.

THE Angel Food Cake

I'll start with a little back story.

Most Sundays we have dinner with my in-laws. I absolutely love having dinner with them, the kids love it, there's always good food, and we always have fun.

One of the best parts is: we ALWAYS have dessert!

What's a family dinner without dessert right??

So, one Sunday in January we had an angel food cake, it was purchased at our local wholesale store.

Everyone loved it topped with whipped cream and strawberries, and we were all happily ever after.

About a week later I was looking at it, and it looked just like when we first cut into it.

Hmmm.

(Enter my curiosity)

So, instead of tossing it, I wanted to see how long it would take to grow mold. Yes, mold.

Two months later it still looks like we just opened it.

Scary.

Here it will sit until there is mold, even though my OCD senses are tingling and I feel it has lived on this cabinet beyond it's welcome already.

How long do you think it will take??

March Mid-Month Check In

Like I said before in my goal setting post for March, I feel like I set a pretty lazy goal this month for the Lovely Year of Finishes thing.

The pant legs have all been serged together, and all 3 pairs just need to be hemmed and the waistband done.

I haven't done anything with the dress yet, still not sure what kind of sleeves I want to put on it. I'm thinking petal sleeves to give it good movement.

I have however been working on a quilt I was already in the middle of doing when I decided to start this 'UFO cleanse'. See:

I've got a big stack of blocks to do another 2 rows on the side and bottom, but my 'design wall' aka vinyl tablecloth with a flannel back is just too small to put them all up. So, the toy room needs to be cleaned before I can lay out all the blocks. I'm thinking tonights activity will be to clean it!

Yesterday

I love looking back on the day before, or even the past few days, and think about all that happened.

To think about all the nice little things my kids have said or done, think about the weather, think about the things that we did together that made someone happy. Most of all I like to think about the way we all are growing together each day.

For example, my boys have been crazy about tick tack toe lately. We have an easel with a chalk board on one side and this is 'the bestest place for tick toe' in the house. It's so great to just watch them have something else that they can actually do with little to no fighting. The best part though, when no one wins 'the cats won'. Yea, great right?!

We went for a walk yesterday, first time to the park since fall, and it was quite nice. We noticed that spring is just around the corner, and buds were everywhere. I can't wait for the warmer days that are coming.

Not sure if I'm more excited about the weather, or the fact that warmer weather means yardsale season!!

(All my pictures were from yesterday, thanks Mom for my first D&G purse!!!)

March's UFO

Since there's still some cold weather in these parts, I thought it would be suitable to finish up the boys pajama pants that never got finished. It would be nice to give them pjs that fit and that they can use for a while (not just once or twice).

I kinda feel like I'm cheating a little picking something super easy for the first month I'm joining the Lovely Year of Finishes.

In my defense, there are 3 pairs to be finished, and I will be working on some of the others a little also, don't worry.

Edited to add this:

So, I decided that I needed to add a little more to my challenge to finish this month.

Enter the peach dress:

This was supposed to be a cute little dress for Church for my younger daughter, maybe from 2 years ago. I think it's about an 18 month size.

I loved this tutorial for the petal neckline, and just incorporated it into a dress instead.

To sum things up, I've decided to finish up all the clothing items I have started and not finished as the challenge this month.
